About Us

The history of Greengate in Southwest Louisiana goes back more than 40 years. Julian and Sally Dondis started the garden center on October 1, 1960 on Ryan Street and moved to the present location on Lake Street five years later.

The Dondises originally set out to do landscaping, but found more and more customers wanting plants and entered into the retail side of gardening. Today, landscaping is still a part of their business in Southwest Louisiana. With 3 landscape designers, including 1 landscape architect, 2 landscape contractors and a professional staff to meet your landscaping and irrigation needs, Greengate has grown to become the oldest and one of the largest landscaping businesses in the Southwest Louisiana area. Our retail nursery is the largest between Lafayette and Houston. We have done this by concentrating on a market that wants superior customer service and a quality product that will produce results, instead of competing with chain stores for discount pricing. Greengate also was the first in the Southwest Louisiana area to offer interiorscaping, a concept that brings gardening indoors to enjoy year-round.

The staff at Greengate enjoys assisting customers in becoming successful gardeners. With more than 150 years of experience among them, the fully licensed and insured staff includes several certified nurserymen and a licensed landscape architect.
